Act for Kids, an Australian children’s charity, faced rising safety risks as their mobile practitioners traveled alone to client homes across North Queensland. Rapid team growth made their manual check-in system of emails, phone calls, and Outlook calendars unsafe and unsustainable. To address this, the organization trialed SafetyIQ to automate journey tracking and strengthen real-time communication. Staff immediately felt safer due to instant alerts and simple, low-effort functionality. The platform also gave managers clearer visibility of worker movement across long distances. With positive results, Act for Kids began expanding SafetyIQ nationwide to protect its mobile workforce.
Act for Kids needed a safer, more reliable way to monitor practitioners working alone, traveling long distances, and entering unfamiliar homes. Their manual process depended on workers calling or emailing supervisors and keeping calendars updated, which quickly became unmanageable as the team grew by over 250%. This created communication gaps, administrative overload, and increasing concern that an incident could go unnoticed. Paper-based alternatives were considered but posed even higher risks and inefficiencies. Other software options were either too complex or too costly for a not-for-profit organization. They required a simple, automated system that protected staff without interrupting sensitive client work.

Act for Kids launched a SafetyIQ trial across two frontline teams to test automated journey management and real-time visibility. SafetyIQ champions, including the Regional Director and Administration Officer, led adoption and ensured everyone understood the new process. Staff found the tool simple to use and appreciated the automated check-ins that reduced pressure during client visits. Managers gained an immediate view of worker movements through a live activity dashboard displayed in the office. The organization provided smartphones to ensure full access and updated internal check-in policies to align with the new system. Early anxiety around technology quickly faded once staff experienced the safety and efficiency improvements.
SafetyIQ streamlined communication, reduced administrative workload, and significantly improved safety oversight for the North Queensland region. Practitioners no longer had to send constant emails or calls, freeing up time for client care. Managers benefited from real-time location awareness, strengthening response capabilities and overall visibility. Staff felt safer and more supported, naming SafetyIQ the best initiative of the year. From June 2015 to March 2016, the team completed 1,847 journeys totaling more than 4,000 hours of travel. Due to the success of the trial, Act for Kids began rolling out SafetyIQ across Australia.
