Downer is one of Australia’s largest service providers, delivering integrated solutions across Transport, Utilities, and Facilities sectors. Through the Facilities & Asset Services division, Downer operates and maintains essential infrastructure including stadiums, hospitals, schools, commercial and residential buildings, and major industrial sites. With 50,000 employees across 300 locations, the company prioritizes proactive systems that protect its people, especially those traveling long distances between sites.

I couldn’t be happier with the solution the team at SafetyIQ provided us with. The user interface looks clean and is easy to use, and the technical support from the SafetyIQ team has felt like a partnership from day one.
SafetyIQ replaced Downer’s paper-based journey process with a digital platform that centralizes travel planning and real-time monitoring. Drivers can now complete quick Travel Risk Assessments (TRAs), build journey plans, and check-in automatically during travel. Missed check-ins trigger immediate escalation to managers, ensuring timely support. Integration with Downer’s In-Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS) added live vehicle location visibility for safer, more informed oversight.
Downer relied on manual journey management processes, requiring workers and supervisors to track safe arrivals through calendars, texts, and memory. This created inconsistencies, delays, and limited visibility—especially for employees completing long or remote trips. The business needed a digital solution that provided shared, real-time oversight across teams and multiple geographic regions. They also wanted an emergency alert mechanism to protect drivers during high-risk journeys.

SafetyIQ was introduced to Downer’s Asset and Development Services team as a location-based platform capable of monitoring remote workers across diverse environments. The built-in digital Travel Risk Assessment ensured drivers evaluated journey risks and planned responsibly before departing. Automatic time-based escalations notified managers when a check-in was missed, improving response times and safety support. Integration with Downer’s IVMS system provided an additional layer of visibility by displaying real-time vehicle locations during active journey plans.
After a successful trial and cross-department consultation, SafetyIQ was implemented widely across the Facilities & Asset Services division. IVMS integration enhanced visibility while meeting privacy standards by tracking vehicle locations only during active journeys. Consistent journey data now supports insights and future AI-driven analysis of vehicle-related incidents. Downer reduced manual journey management from 19 hours to just 4 hours per month, saving 15 hours monthly with SafetyIQ’s digital solution.
